Asus Zenfone 8, Zenfone 8 Mini Launch Set for May 12, Geekbench Listing

Asus launched its last Zenfone smartphone, exactly a year back. Although the Zenfone series for this year is yet to launch, the company has already tossed its gaming smartphone dubbed Asus ROG Phone 5. While the fans are embracing the ROG Phone 5, there’s also anticipation for its upcoming Zenfone series. As expected, Asus on Saturday has confirmed the launch date of its upcoming Zenfone series, the Asus Zenfone 8. Additionally, the vanilla smartphone has made it to the Geekbench revealing key specs.

Asus Zenfone 8, Zenfone 8 Mini Launch Date and GeekBench Listing

Asus will take wraps off the Asus Zenfone 8 on May 12 in the global market. Interestingly, the series will go official in Berlin and New York on the same day, whereas, the home market, Taipei, will get its hands-on the series on May 13. The official website of Asus has revamped its landing page showcasing the tagline “Big on Performace” and “Compact on Size” hinting at a compact flagship smartphone.

Asus Zenfone 8 Mini will be the Compact Offering from Asus

For those who are unaware, a compact phone from Asus with the moniker Asus Zenfone 8 Mini did rounds in the rumor mill earlier. The device has gone past a few certifications and tips suggesting it feature a 64MP Sony IMX686 main sensor and an ultra-wide-angle lens. The device is also expected to have an OLED panel with a flagship-grade chipset.

The Zenfone 8 Mini was spotted with a whopping 16 GB of RAM. The mini is also touted to boast a higher refresh rate panel and may have a full-screen panel just like the predecessor.

Geekbench Scores and Key Specs of Zenfone 8

Apart from this, the other Zenfone phones seen in the rumor mill didn’t reveal many details. Well, to top it off, we have the fresh Geekbench listing of one of the Zenfone 8 series devices carrying the model number Asus_I004D. Way earlier, folks from XDA Developers managed to get the source code of this particular model learning that the marketing name of the phone will be Asus Zenfone 8.

Having a look at its scores, the Zenfone 8 has scored 1124 single-core points and 3669 points in the multi-core department on the Geekbench 5. These scores are possible due to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 octa-core chipset. The flagship chipset was also seen in Mini’s Geekbench listing which suggests that all the smartphones in the series will board the same flagship chipset.

One major thing to notice is that the device has 8GB of RAM as compared to the 16GB seen in Mini’s listing. Well, it could mean that this is the base variant of the vanilla Zenfone 8. For software, the device boots on Android 11 out of the box and is expected to have Asus’ custom UI on top of it.

Other Rumored Specifications

Aside from this, there’s nothing else to learn from the poster or listing, but there’s no need to worry as the rumor mill has something to say. The series is expected to have an AMOLED panel with a Full-HD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate.

Source suggests that there won’t be any major difference in the primary and secondary sensors of all the smartphones in the series. The series will flaunt a Sony IMX686 primary lens and an IMX663 secondary lens. Just like last year, Asus is expected to stick with some fancy front camera setup, it could be the flip-camera mechanism as last year, or the series may entirely have a new arrangement for the same.

As for batteries, the Asus Zenfone 8 series is expected to have a big battery cell with support for 30W fast charging technology. It is unknown if Asus will provide wireless charging and water resistance features, therefore, it remains to be seen.
