Oppo Find N vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3: Major Differences Explained!

Oppo Find N vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3: Two Foldables Battle for Good!

Oppo has finally launched its first true folding smartphone, the Find N, on the second day of its annual Oppo Inno Day event in China.

It has a similarity to the Galaxy Z Fold, a phone series that popularised the book-style folding tablet design. Samsung had a strong debut in 2019 with the first Galaxy Z Fold. It suffered a slew of durability difficulties. But now with the Z fold 3, they have improved a lot.

But how does it stack up against Samsung’s Fold3 smartphone let find out?

Oppo Find N vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3

Display & Design

Oppo’s Find N boasts a 5.49-inch outer display and a pleasant 18:9 aspect ratio. It boasts an AMOLED display, a 1972 x 988 resolution, and a refresh rate of 60Hz. In comparison, Fold 3’s cover screen is much different. It is not only bigger at 6.2 inches, but the 25:9 aspect ratio makes it appear narrower and tall. The screen of the Z Fold 3 is larger and better. It has a 7.6-inch inner AMOLED display with a resolution of 1768 x 2208 with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Cameras on the Oppo Find N and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3

Oppo’s camera lineup remains competitive, with a 50MP primary sensor, a 16MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 13MP telephoto lens. In comparison, the Z Fold 3 boasts 12MP sensors for its main, ultra-wide, and telephoto cameras. Oppo maintains its advantage in selfie cameras. On both the cover and inner displays of the Find N, there are 32MP front-facing cameras. The Fold 3 has a 16MP camera on the cover display and a small 4MP selfie camera on the inside.

Hardware and Software

Both smartphones have comparable buttons and connectors, with a recessed power button on the right side that also houses the fingerprint sensor for unlocking. While Samsung has a volume rocker switch on the same edge, Oppo chose to place its own volume control on the opposite side. In terms of waterproofing, Oppo hasn’t said if their phone has an official IP rating, but Samsung’s does have IPX8 water resistance, which means it can withstand almost any water-related disaster.

The Oppo Find N arrives just as the rest of the industry begins to prepare for next-generation silicon. Unfortunately, it misses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, instead opting for the still-powerful Snapdragon 888 SoC. In addition, you get up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Moving on to hardware specs, there are some parallels. Both phones are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 CPU, which provides flagship-level performance. They also have top variants with 12GB RAM and up to 512GB UFS 3.1 storage, however, Oppo also has an 8GB/256GB option.

Coming to the Battery section, the capacity of Z Fold 3 is 4400 mah while Oppo Find N gets a higher 4500 mah battery. The distinction is in charging rates, with Oppo employing a 33W version of their rapid VOOC charging technology. Similarly using Oppo’s own AirVOOC wireless charger, you’ll receive 15W speeds, Samsung has limited it to 11W.

Major Differences Between the Two

Unfortunately for those eager to get their hands on the smartphone as soon as possible, Oppo has stated that the Find N will initially be available in China.

Our Verdict

Oppo has a little advantage in the front screen, which has a less narrow ratio, making it much easier to operate without the expertise. Oppo features a crisper primary camera and better-charging choices, but the cover display has a 60Hz refresh rate which is less than Samsung 120hz. The major difference between the Find N and Z Fold 3 is, of course, their availability. Samsung Fold 3 is available globally whereas oppos currently have restricted only to china.

Pricing

In China, the phone is expected to cost 7,699 yuan ($1,210) for the 8GB/256GB model and 8,999 yuan ($1,414) for the 12GB/512GB option. On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 carried a launch price of 7599 yuan(~$1,193/ US$ 1,900) which is cheaper than the Find N.
