Chinese tech giant Huawei has been on the launch spree lately. The sub-brand Honor launched the Honor Tab X7 and a couple of notebooks in the home market. Now, the company has officially scheduled to launch a new budget smartphone dubbed Honor Play5 on May 18 in China.

Honor Play5 Launch Details and Highlights

According to the official poster shared by Honor, the Play5 smartphone will be unveiled at 19:20 China time. While the company hasn’t revealed much, the poster has revealed its design and key elements.

The upcoming Honor Play5 seems to change plenty of things in terms of the design. The smartphone has a water-drop notch panel as compared to the punch-hole panel on its predecessor, the Honor Play4. The poster shows super-thin bezels of the smartphone, especially at the bottom.

It seems to have also switched up the vertical camera module from its predecessor to a squarish island at the back. The phone has four cameras placed in the squarish camera module where the LED flash has been sandwiched between the lenses. The island seems a bit protruded.

At the back itself, the phone has a Honor branding. It also has a text below the camera lenses which isn’t actually visible. It could be the camera sensor’s branding text. Anyways, moving to the sides, the phone has a volume rocker and the power button on the right-side and a SIM-card slot on the left.

Notably, the phone doesn’t seem to feature any sort of fingerprint scanner. Even if we zoom in, it doesn’t have the side-facing sensor. This suggests that the device could make use of the under-display fingerprint scanner for security. As far as colors are concerned, the phone has two gradient finishes – a Blue and White Gradient, and a Light Purple and White gradient.

Although we do not have any other information to learn from the poster, the rumor mill has already covered some of its major highlights. Let’s take a look.

Expected Specifications and Details

Display and Design

The Honor Play5 will feature a 6.53-inch OLED display. As seen in the poster, it will be a water-drop notch panel that will maintain a high screen-to-body ratio figure. The screen will be a Full-HD+ panel and it may have a high refresh rate support. The device is tipped to be quite thin and light at 7.46mm and 179 grams.

Cameras on the Honor Play5

The handset will boast a quadruple-camera setup with a 64-megapixel primary lens, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, a 2-megapixel tertiary lens, and lastly another 2-megapixel unit. The last two sensors would probably be for depth sensing and macro shots. At the front, it will have a single camera setup, however, the exact sensor size is unknown.

Hardware and Software

It will come powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 800U SoC. It is expected to house a smaller 3,800mAh battery with support for 66W fast charging technology. It is an upgrade over the 22.5W fast charging on its predecessor Honor Play4. Just like the predecessor, it is expected to have an 8GB RAM variant with 128GB of internal storage.

As there’s just a week left for the launch, we expect to learn some insightful details about the phone in the coming days.
