Earlies this year, Oppo quietly took wraps off the Oppo A54 5G and Oppo A74 5G smartphones. The 5G handsets were launched in animus to cover the growing 5G market in the Chinese region. Since the 5G market across the globe is also gradually expanding, the Chinese tech giant was expected to propel a few 5G phones in the global market. Today, the company has launched the A54 5G and A74 5G in the European market at affordable prices.
For starters, these phones are 5G phones fueling the latest budget 5G-enabled SoCs. Both the devices look almost similar with almost no real difference. Let’s head to the specs to learn more about it.
Oppo A54 5G and Oppo A74 5G Specifications
Display and Design
The duo packs a 6.5-inch IPS LCD display with a Full-HD+ resolution. It is a punch-hole panel with thin bezels on three of the sides except for the bottom. The bottom chin is thicker than what the competition is offering. Anyways it’s nothing to look for in budget handsets.
The display on both phones supports a 90Hz high refresh rate with a higher 180Hx touch sampling rate. Oppo has stalked pretty bright displays in these phones coming at 480 nits of typical brightness. The screen produces 405 PPI pixel density and it has 83.8% screen-to-body ratio.
Oppo has tossed the phones with the same outer shell which looks sleek and premium but the company hasn’t revealed the material using in the making. Considering the phones come in the budget range, they could be made out of high-quality polycarbonate plastic.
Cameras on the Oppo A54 5G and Oppo A74 5G
Moving to the cameras, the phones flaunt the same camera island which is placed vertically. This Island holds four cameras, a 48MP primary lens, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, a 2MP macro lens, and lastly a 2MP depth sensor on both phones. At the front as well, the 16MP selfie sensor is the same on both.
The rear cameras can shoot 1080p videos at 30fps with support for Electronic Image Stabilization(EIS). The front cameras come with different effects including beauty and portrait mode. Other features of the cameras include, Panorama, filter support, and Led flash as a hardware feature.
Chipset, Battery, and Software
Even the hardware in the phones is the same. The duo comes powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 chipset that comes with 5G connectivity support. For those who are unaware, it is a new budget 5G octa-core chipset based on the 8nm process. It has Adreno 619 GPU and is paired with 6GB of RAM on the A74 5G and 4GB on the A54 5G. The RAM and storage is probably the only difference spotted son far between the two. Well, the storage is what you expect, 128GB UFS 2.1 and 64GB USF 2.1 respectively.
The dual-SIM devices house a 5,000mAh battery with 10W charging support on the A54 5G and 18W fast charging support on the A74 5G. Here’s another difference between the two.
Both phones come with a 3.5mm headphone jack for audio and a USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer. The phones have a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and support for Face unlock offering added security.

Pricing, Colors, and Availability
Just like the specs with almost minimal differences, the pricing too is nothing different. It feels as if these are variants of a single phone. The Oppo A54 5G comes at a price tag of EUR 269(~$324) for the sole 4GB RAM + 64GB variant, whereas, the Oppo A74 5G is priced at EUR 299(~$360) for the sole 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant.
It is just a difference of $36 and the only difference is the RAM/Storage and the fast charging support. Well, apart from the specs, the A54 5G has two colorways – Fluid Black and Fantastic Purple. Buyers get a choice of Fluid Black and Space Silver if they go with A74 5G. The phones are already available for purchase in Oppo stores in the European markets.
In related news, Oppo also launched a 4G version of the A74 smartphone a few weeks back in the Asian markets. The Oppo A74 4G has a better AMOLED panel, an under-display fingerprint scanner, and Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 chipset. Do note that it has the standard 60Hz display but the Fast charging support for the 4G variant is better – 33W as compared to the 18W support in the 5G variant.
In terms of pricing, the A74 4G comes at a converted price tag of $248 which is way cheaper than the price of the 5G variant if compared.
